Summary: This is a 70 minute long skills building video stream demonstration with multicultural counseling expert Dr. Patricia Arredondo hosting four role-plays. These are role-plays of more highly- achieving Latino/a clients and their therapist as they confront in therapy various cultural values and traditional beliefs as a result of their bi-cultural experiences and acculturation. Vignette #1 depicts Sara and her difficulties adjusting to college life at an Ivy League school. Vignette #2 depicts Raul and Sophia struggling over role changes and conflicts while adjusting to the economic realities of life in the U.S.. Vignette # 3 depicts Gloria in her struggle to address issues of discrimination in corporate America. And Vignette #4 depicts Mercedes and her daughter Milagros struggling in their relationship to overcome conflicts related to Milagros’ acculturation. Dr. Arredondo hosts the Debriefings of the role- play demonstrations, and she reviews the Learning Points of each of these vignettes. Among some of the Latino cultural values and beliefs discussed include allocentrism, interdependence, family loyalty, machismo, and acculturation.
